Jan 1st - No suggested bets

I’m not prepared to get involved with todays races at Musselburgh - officially speaking…

It’s impossible for me to know what impact the rain has had on the ground - but the defection of a number of horses who want good ground, makes me very nervous.

I would have been extremely keen on on both Sebastapol (1:20) and Romain de Senam (3:05), if the rain had stayed away - but if the ground has gone soft, it won’t suit either.

Ofcourse, they may still get way with it - and if the bookmakers had played ball and pushed out their prices, I might have taken a risk.

However, Sebastapol is a best price 7/2 with the bookies (in just a couple of places) - despite being 4/1+ on the exchanges; whilst you can’t beat 9/2 on Romain de Senam, even thought he is 6/1+ on the exchanges…

Suffice to say, if the ground is decent, I think both have excellent chances; if it is riding on the soft side, then I would switch my allegiance to Kaiser and Schiehallion Munroe.

With Exeter abandoned, the only other race of interest is the 1:55 at Muss.
My original fancy, Proschema, has been withdrawn on account of the ground.
In his absence, Rosie and Millie looks very much the one to beat - but at 5/2, I can resist getting involved…

I’ll now switch my attention to Sandown tomorrow - though I suspect there is a light doubt over that card (due to frost).
I’ll aim to post previews of the forum this evening, for the main races - and will look to issue any bets after 9:00 tomorrow - though there is a chance that might also be delayed if there is a lot of  uncertainty…

There are times, when this feels more like an exercise in studying the weather and its impact, rather than the races and horses !!
